Stop Your KOSME KSB 6000 Lamps From Popping
If you’re running SIG Blomax lines, you know the headache of tubes burning out way too often. Usually, it’s just thermal shock or the quartz giving up under the pressure. When you’re shopping for a replacement for the KSB 6000, you aren’t just buying a bulb. You’re looking for something that can handle high-wattage infrared heat and rapid cycling without just snapping. The heat struggle Here’s the thing about the KSB 6000: it needs a very specific power-to-length ratio. If that’s off, your PET preforms won’t hit that glass transition temperature evenly. We use a reinforced quartz because standard tubes tend to bow when things get hot. When a tube warps, it shifts out of the reflector’s focal point. That’s how you get cold spots, and cold spots mean your final containers end up with wonky wall thickness. Not a great look. Tougher materials, fewer breaks We stopped using the basic quartz and switched to a reinforced version that can actually take a beating. These are drop-in replacements, so they fit right into your SIG line without any fuss. The goal was to harden the envelope. Why? Because vibration and those tiny mechanical shifts during a shift can shatter a fragile tube. We wanted to kill off that “snap” for good. A few tips for the install Swapping them out is easy, but don’t get sloppy. Because these are built tighter, your installation has to be spot on. Make sure your contacts are clean and seated firmly. If you leave a connection loose, you’ll get an arc. And trust me, an arc will melt your end cap regardless of how fancy the quartz is. Plus, since these lamps hold their heat output more consistently as they age, keep an eye on your PID controllers. You might need to tweak them a bit so you don’t accidentally overheat your preforms.
